News and Events
- January, 2010: Article by Dr. Andrew Wagner, et. al is published in Journal of Clinical Oncology. The article details the research funded in part by The sPECial Fund and includes Phyllis Domm's clinical story. Read the article "Clinical Activity of mTOR Inhibition With Sirolimus in Malignant Perivascular Epithelioid Cell Tumors: Targeting the Pathogenic Activation of mTORC1 in Tumors".
- October, 2009: Malcolm Itkin, a dear friend and advocate of The sPECial Fund, passed on from complications related to sarcoma cancer. He will be greatly missed. He served as the Patient Services Coordinator on the board for The sPECial Fund. Please read his story here.
- Friday July 17, 2009: "The sPECial Fund Cruise to WaterFest." Jon Bellemare, Phyllis Domm's grandson, sponsored an auto cruise to Waterfest to benefit The sPECial Fund. Waterfest is the largest VW/Audi Car Show and Motorsport event in North America, and the second largest of its kind in the world. Waterfest, now in its 15th year is a two-day event held at the world-class Raceway Park facility in Englishtown, New Jersey. The cruise was a huge success. Thank you to all those who participated!
- February, 2009: Read about the passing of Phyllis Domm, founder and director of The sPECial Fund. Read her obituary, and a special message from her family about continuing the goals of The sPECial Fund.
- December 15, 2008: Article by The sPECial Fund founder, Phyllis Domm, is published in "Women & Cancer". Read "Managing a Rare Cancer Diagnosis" on the Women & Cancer site. The author shares her tips for navigating the sometimes murky waters.
- November, 2008: The sPECial Fund's research focus was presented at the CTOS Society Meeting in London. The Connective Tissue Oncology Society (CTOS) is an international group comprised of physicians and scientists with a primary interest in the tumors of connective tissues. The goal of the society is to advance the care of patients with connective tissue tumors and to increase knowledge of all aspects of the biology of these tumors, including basic and clinical research.
